After a slow start and a change of Rheumatologists, I have now been on Enbrel for a year. At my doctor's visit this week, my Dr. had a big smile on his face and said i was exactly where he had hoped I would be in a year. He showed me his medical record from a year ago before Enbrel (onscreen in the examining room - he is very hi-tech) and he had 'checked off' on a drawing of a person about 6-7 of my joints in which he detected swelling/inflammation or about which I was complaining. This was after reasonable control by mtx and Plaquenil for 4 years but I still had issues, especially foot pain.
At this week's appointment there was only 1 joint checked off - my right thumb which is sore but not unbearable by any means. I do have to watch my fatigue level constantly and know my own limits but Enbrel has been a wonderful drug for me. I would encourage anyone with good insurance whose doctor is recommending it for them, to give it a try.
I realize anything could change from day to day, but right now, today, I am thrilled. My previous doctor was very reluctant to change treatments in case of side effects. I was the one in pain when walking etc and I wanted to be more proactive so I switched.
